# Visual DNA

## Thesis

A Kiduna Scene is a beautiful place before it is an interface. Its visual integrity is a runtime requirement, not polish applied after interaction works.

The four supplied Commons images establish the primary evidence. They share illuminated backgrounds, deep atmospheric perspective, darker peripheral framing, warm inhabited centers, tactile materials, restrained ornament, living vegetation, integrated portrait presences and spatial configurations shaped around gathering.

## Thirteen constitutional rules

1. **Inhabited light.** A meaningful pool of light organizes Attention without spotlighting a game objective.
2. **Backgrounds illuminate.** Sky, weather, horizon and distant architecture establish the principal color and direction of environmental light.
3. **Architecture frames.** Overlapping arches, columns, canopy, stairs, railings and foreground forms create depth and continuation.
4. **Tactility before ornament.** Stone, wood, brass, enamel, glass, textile, foliage, water and flame read before decoration.
5. **Ornament has grammar.** Suns, stars, moons, natural geometry, botanical motifs and canonical sigils appear at structural moments.
6. **Nature connects.** Roots, vines, moss, flowers, water and living edges reconcile constructed Components with Terrain.
7. **Presence, not pawns.** Avatars and intelligent Entities use contextual embodiments rather than generic walking sprites.
8. **Interactive, never iconified.** An interactive object remains a credible part of the place before focus or activation.
9. **State through the world.** Light, material, motion and local environmental response precede labels, badges or colored outlines.
10. **Atmosphere carries depth.** Contrast, saturation, edge hardness, detail and temperature change predictably with distance.
11. **Detail follows Attention.** Focal and interactive Components carry controlled detail; supporting and distant forms become quieter.
12. **The grid stays technical.** Runtime tiles may exist; visible square seams, repeated stamps and board-game edges may not.
13. **The world continues.** At least two view corridors, paths, lighting continuities or architectural continuations imply space beyond the viewport.

## Detail tiers

| Tier | Use | Edge | Texture | Ornament |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Focal | current organizing form, active Portal, selected Entity | crisp controlled silhouette | full material response | one legible primary motif |
| Interactive | actionable Object or Entity | crisp near interaction anchor | medium-high | restrained functional motifs |
| Supporting | structure, furniture, vegetation | slightly softened | medium | repeated quietly |
| Distant | background architecture and terrain | atmosphere-softened | suggested | silhouette-level only |

## Atmospheric depth bands

- **Near:** 100% local contrast; full saturation; warm/cool material response; sharp contact detail.
- **Middle:** 76–88% contrast; 88–94% saturation; 1–2 px edge diffusion at 1536 px output.
- **Far:** 48–68% contrast; 68–82% saturation; palette shifts toward environmental sky/haze.
- **Horizon:** 22–42% contrast; no small ornament; temperature converges on the principal atmospheric light.

## Failure modes

Reject work that reads as a board-game tile set, mobile city builder, cozy-game room, MMORPG interface, voxel world, generic fantasy pack, loot icon, toy diorama, glossy assistant, neon portal or conventional character-select screen.

The relevant question is not “is it attractive?” It is “does it feel like a living place whose beauty and interactions share one cause?”
